DL Jaterrius Gulley

DEFENSIVE TACKLE | 6’3″ 325 lbs | Hoover, AL | 2-star – NR
STATUS: Signed with BYU

Jaterrius Gulley was overlooked for most of the recruiting period this year. BYU first made contact with him in January and was able to get him to make an official visit to Provo last weekend. Upon receiving an offer from Coach Mendenhall on Saturday, Gulley committed nearly on the spot.

Gulley chose BYU over offers from SE Louisiana, Memphis, Central Arkansas, UAB, and Western Kentucky. Gulley was also beginning to attract the attention of the Georgia Bulldogs when he committed to BYU, and had made a visit to Mississippi State. Though it is unknown why it took so long for Jaterrius to catch the eyes of coaches across the country, BYU is certainly glad it took the chance on him.

It remains to be seen how much Gulley will be able to contribute at BYU, but Cougar coaches typically like to play non-Mormon players immediately. Look for Gulley to be in the mix with JonRyheem Peoples, Marques Johnson, and others to claim the Nose Tackle position following Eathyn Manumaleuna’s graduation.
